Austria - Trade unions prepare for autumn bargaining round - August 31, 2023

Ahead of the next wage bargaining round in autumn, the trade unions firmly reject employers' demands for wage moderation through extending the duration of collective agreements from 12 to 24 months and through one-off payments. According to the trade unions PPO-GE and GPA, “sustainable wage and salary increases cannot be replaced by one-off payments. Annual collective bargaining has also proven its worth. There is no reason to change this successful system”. Accordingly, the basis for wage and salary increases continue to be rolling inflation and a share in economic success.
