Latvia - Latvia should implement shortened working hours, say employers - June 30, 2020

The Employers’ Confederation (LDDK) calls for the introduction of short-term working hours, temporarily addressing the employment problem in times of crisis. Such a mechanism could replace downtime compensation, which expires by the end of June. The LDDK stresses that Latvia currently has one of the fastest rates of unemployment growth in the European Union, which shows that many companies are unable to save jobs in times of crisis, while downtime benefits will cease to be paid.
