France - Government plans to restrict access to unemployment benefits - May 31, 2024

The government has outlined the measures contained in the new unemployment insurance scheme, due to come into force on 1 December 2024. The duration of compensation will be reduced, eligibility restricted and the age limit for more favourable compensation for senior citizens raised. Unemployment benefits will be limited to a maximum of 15 months, down from the current 18 months. The government also plans to require someone to have worked eight months during the last 20 months, instead of six months during the last 24 months as is currently the case, to qualify for unemployment benefits.
