United Kingdom - Pay rise in local government organisations - November 30, 2023

Trade unions UNISON, Unite and GMB have agreed to accept the offer of employers in local government of a flat-rate pay rise of £ 1,925 (€ 2,205) on annual salaries for 2023. This means an increase of around 9% for the lowest paid workers and about 4% for most of the workforce. The unions had initially demanded an increase of 12.7% and have made clear that they are already looking to the negotiations in 2024 to deliver better pay for local government workers. The agreement covers workers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. In Scotland, UNISON is consulting over an improved offer from the employers that would provide a minimum increase of £ 2,006 (€ 2,298) for those on the Scottish local government living wage, and a minimum of £ 1,929 (€ 2,210) for all those above that rate backdated to 1 April 2023 based on a 37-hour week.
