Sweden - Continued high level of organisation - March 31, 2023

According to the Medlings-Institutet (Mediation Institute), the percentage of employees covered by collective agreements has been around 90% for several years. The level of organization among employers is roughly the same. Union density has stabilized at nearly 70%, but with increased differences between white-collar and blue-collar workers. In 2022, the percentage of unionized white-collar workers fell from 62 to 59%, according to preliminary figures, while the unionization rate of blue-collar workers was unchanged at 74%. Overall, the average union density is 69%. In 2021, the collective bargaining coverage rate in the private sector was 82%. For the labour market as a whole, the coverage rate is 88%.
