Netherlands - Strikes at distribution centers of supermarket chain - April 30, 2023

Workers at distribution centres of supermarket chain Albert Heijn (AH) have gone on strike over pay, which may result in empty supermarket shelves. Workers at three distribution centers and at the AH headquarters downed tools on 23 April following the supermarket’s refusal to agree to a 14.3% pay rise and an extra net € 100 a month. Albert Heijn is not prepared to go beyond 6% and another 2% from January. The trade union FNV also wants new workers to be paid double on Sundays whereas AH wants to halve the Sunday bonus.
