Italy -Alitalia in bad weather -January 23, 2014

The heavily indebted air carrier Alitalia is planning to scrap 1,900 jobs as part of a restructuring plan. The management promised the trade unions that there would be no involuntary redundancies, with those laid off likely to opt for early redundancy with special benefits. The layoffs affect 280 pilots, 350 flight attendants, 480 ground staff, 600 office staff and 190 maintenance staff. Meanwhile rumours that the Abu Dhabi-based carrier Etihad is preparing a big investment in Alitalia are still circulating.
