Event details

Globally, the cut-flower sector is worth over $15 billion. Millions of people involved in the growth, transportation, and sale of flowers depend on it for their livelihoods. The Netherlands has emerged as a hub of this sector, with a large domestic market that occupies a central position in the import and export of cut-flowers.

Together with Mondiaal FNV, WageIndicator conducted a comprehensive research study aimed at addressing the crucial issue of bridging the gap between Minimum Wages and Living Wages for workers in the Latin America and African cut-flowers sector. Our research delved into the specific dynamics of six key countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Ecuador, Colombia, and the Netherlands, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities in each region.

To provide a clear overview of our findings, we've created a data visualisation that shows the gaps between the Minimum Wage and Living Wages in the studied countries. You can also find a detailed report of our findings here.

On the 23rd of May, 2024, we held a webinar to dive deeper into this topic. We featured a discussion with trade unions, exploring the feasibility of achieving Living Wages within the industry. We also explored strategies to make this a reality and spotlighted industry leaders at the forefront of championing this vital cause. You can watch a recording of the webinar below:
