Living Wages

In contrast to statutory minimum wages, living wages are not set as a guide under the law framework and therefore are not legally enforced. Living wages provide an essential tool for companies who voluntarily commit to improving their social performance. In fact, living wages are a fundamental instrument for the achievement of SDGs.

Therefore, major global companies have lately committed to a timeline of implementation of living wages in their structure and all along their supply chain. Thus, improving the livelihood of thousands of people all along the value chain, helping develop thriving resilient communities, and ensuring that everyone who provides services and goods are fairly paid.

As sustainability is part of our core values, we are constantly improving our social and environmental performance services. In order to respond to the highest social requirements of sustainability standards, we are collaborating with WageIndicator Foundation, providing data and support in the whole implementation phase of living wages.

Approach and Deliverables

The overall process consists of multiple phases which will apply to each site of the company, taking into account the different economic and infrastructural circumstances per region within a country.

Given that living wage reflects on a decent living for workers without overtime (including inter alia food, housing, medical health care, education, transport, savings, etc.) it is not considered the same as the national legal minimum wage. Therefore, it is strongly dependent on the local circumstances of the region, reflecting the availability of basic food and water, access to education, transportation type, amongst others.

For each country, we will work with the local offices and conduct all research and the respective interviews locally when needed and available. The overall work will be coordinated centrally by the Global Peterson team who will report to your concerned team the overall project progress and keep on to the agreed-upon timelines.
