United Kingdom - Municipal pay offer falls short as strikes continue - May 31, 2024

Local Government trade unions’ initial reaction to this year’s pay offer from the employers is that it falls well below their expectations. The negotiations cover more than one million local government workers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and the opening offer is for a lump sum payment of £ 1,290 (€ 1,515) (equivalent to 5.7% of annual salary for the low paid). The unions will consult their members on the offer. Meanwhile, admin and support workers’ unions in education in Northern Ireland (including UNISON, GMBand Unite) have been continuing their industrial action over pay and grading.
