Germany - First industry wide collective agreement for airport staff - February 29, 2024

After years of negotiations, the union ver.di has succeeded in concluding a uniform nationwide collective agreement for all ground handling service providers at airports. This collective agreement comes into force on 1 July 2024 and, with a starting wage of € 16.51 per hour, significantly improves wages in the low-wage sector. With better time bonuses, vacation of up to 36 days for shift workers and a 37.5 hour week, the new collective agreement is intended to make work at airports more attractive. Ver.di had been working on enforcing this nationwide collective agreement since 2014. The new industry collective agreement, which will apply to around 30,000 employees, will replace the currently existing approximately 130 company-level agreements.
