Netherlands - Union members reject agreement for supermarkets - June 30, 2023

By a small majority (57%), FNV members in the supermarkets rejected the final offer made by the employers’ associations VGL (Association of Large Retail Companies in Food) and Vakcentrum for a new collective agreement, that was submitted to the unions on 6 June. According to the FNV negotiator, the FNV members do not want to wait to September until their wages will increase by 10%, the youth wages for employees up to the age of 21 must be abolished, and the Sunday allowance of 100% should be reinstalled. Since the members of the trade union CNV Vakmensen accepted the negotiation result, it is not clear yet whether the agreement, that will apply to 330,000 employees in supermarkets, will come into effect.
