Lithuania - Teachers on strike after 10% pay rise is offered - September 30, 2023

The Lithuanian Education Workers’ Trade Union (LŠDPS) started a strike on 29 September. A total of 2,439 workers are on strike in 132 schools. According to the the Education, Science and Sport Minister, teachers have been offered a 10% pay rise from January; and their wages would also increase by 21% in total next year. The head of the Lithuanian Education Employees' Trade Union, said after the meeting that his union would look into the proposals, adding that the decision to go on strike has paid off. The Union already held a warning strike om 22 September as it is demanding a 56% pay increase for teachers.
