Finland - Unions strike nationwide against government - September 30, 2023

Trade unions began a series of strikes in opposition to proposals from the government to trash workers’ rights and impose cuts to welfare benefits. The Confederation of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK) said that the strike was the first in a series of “walkouts, protests and demonstrations” to oppose government proposals.Activists affiliated with the SAK launched a nationwide campaign of protests and walkouts for three weeks. The action aims to denounce social security cuts and other reforms perceived as harmful to workers. Protests and strikes will be announced four days before they are to occur. The walkouts will not impact emergency or essential services like heating and electricity.
