Bulgaria - Wages increase by 4% - August 31, 2023

Compared to the first quarter of 2023, the average monthly wages and salaries increased by 4.0% and reached 1,957 BGN (€ 1,000) in the second quarter of 2023. According to the National Statistical Institute, the highest increase in wages and salaries was reported in ‘Construction’ (8.5%), ‘Accommodation and food service activities’ (8.3%) and in ‘Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply’ (7.5%). Compared to the second quarter of 2022, the average monthly wages and salaries in the second quarter of 2023 rose by 13.1%. The highest growth rates were recorded in the following sectors: ‘Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply’ (22.3%), ‘Construction’ (17.4%) and ‘Transportation and storage’ (17.2%).
