United Kingdom - Employers voluntarily return furlough funds - April 30, 2021

Recent figures reveal 3,000 firms have given back funds they did not need. More than £760 million (€874 million) of furlough funds has now been returned to the government by 3,777 companies, figures from national accountancy group UHY Hacker Young have suggested. Among those known to have returned money to HMRC so far are Primark, which recently announced it would be handing £121 million (€139 million) back after reopening sparked ‘record sales’, as well as online clothing retailer Asos and Halfords, which announced in March it was returning £10 million (€11.5 million) of furlough money.
