Romania - Trade union fears one third of metal workers may lose their jobs - December 31, 2021

Representatives of the trade union Aluministul warned that approximately 1,300 employees, or one third of the workforce, of the aluminium smelter Alro may lose their jobs as the company will reduce its primary aluminium production by 60% next year. Even more may remain unemployed, as companies in the region that depend on Alro employ up to 20,000 people. The trade union urged the government to intervene to ‘rescue the country’s aluminium industry’.
