Poland - Trade unions reach compromise deal on closure of coal mines - April 30, 2021

There was a step forward in plans to gradually close all coal mines by 2049, as the government and local trade unions reached a compromise deal. This has come after the parties reached an initial agreement last September to close the final mine owned by state-operated coal firm PGG in 2049. However, issues related to severance pay, rehabilitation, and the impact of the closure were not resolved. The details of the agreement are not currently available.
