Malta - Minimum wage lags average wages - June 30, 2021

Minimum wages increase at a lower rate than average wages in contrast to the rest of the EU where minimum wages climb faster than average wages. The rise in the statutory minimum wage has not kept up with the growth in average wages between 2009 and 2021. A report by the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living Conditions (Eurofound) shows that in countries with comparable minimum wages the growth in minimum wage was considerably higher than that for average wages.
