Germany - Annual report on collective bargaining - March 31, 2021

The Institute of Economic and Social Research (Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaftliches Institut, WSI) of the Hans-Bockler-Stiftung published its annual Collective Bargaining report for 2020 which provides an overview of collective agreements concluded in 2020, agreed wage increases and sectoral minimum wages as well as collectively agreed increases in short-time work allowances. The 2020 bargaining round took place in a context dominated by the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic and social consequences. The COVID-19 crisis had widely varying impacts on different areas of the economy. Many industries suffered a severe initial effect. Conversely, many areas of the economy were not affected by the pandemic and, in some instances, even gained from it.
