Return to work in Europe and Latin America, but Increase of risky situations on the job reported from the UK, Brazil and Chile.

In terms of safety measures applied on the job, the situation in European countries seems to have stabilized. Throughout the period in which the corona survey is up (from March 23 till today) roughly 1 in 5 European respondents report insufficient or no safety measures taken by their employer. This proportion has not changed significantly over the past three months. The only exception is the UK. Here the proportion of respondents reporting insufficient or no measures at all, jumped from 19% to 33%, or from 1 in 5 (the European average) to 1 in 3. At the same time more and more people in Europe went out of home confinement: 24% say they stay at home still today, down from 42% in the beginning of the pandemic.

By contrast, safety measures on the job in Latin American countries show a partial worsening, while the overall ‘stay-home’ pattern is very similar to Europe: from 45% at the beginning of the corona outbreak down to a current 21%. This figure means that overall many more people in Latin America (as in Europe) go out to work again. Yet in some Latin American countries, by returning to their workplaces more people are exposed to infection risk. This is particularly the case in Brazil and Chile. In these two countries the proportion of respondents reporting no or insufficient measures taken by their employer more or less doubled. Whereas from Bolivia and Paraguay fewer risky situations on the job are reported, which means that in these two countries in the meantime more employers have taken adequate safety measures.

This picture emerges from the Working and Living in Corona-times Survey, online since March 23, in which 24,400 respondents from 70 countries participated during the first 3 months, till July 8.

Quote of the day, bank employee, woman, 44, Spain

Translation : "On March 18, I started to show symptoms compatible with covid. They followed up on 061 and the app stop covid. They put me in quarantine, and the people who had contact with me 14 days before. They did not do pcr. After 1 month of discharge I did I have a private laboratory for serological tests, which have given negatives (1.8 of minimum 12), so I have the risk of taking it again. By protocol at work, I am teleworking. The workload is greater for complying with the RD. We have had to adapt to teleworking, to quickly train ourselves in new protocols that change us continuously. In 18 years of professional career I have never been on anxiety medication, and now for 2 weeks I have had to take them. I am type 1 diabetic, and soon I will have I have to physically join my office. I am afraid of taking the covid again due to the sensation of suffocation and shortness of breath, among other symptoms. Bank offices do not have sufficient means of security d. In March, the data in my entity was about 1000 infected, 3 dead and almost half of closed offices, many per quarantine. In April the data was no longer released.

Bank employees do not have the public recognition we deserve for our important and essential work, helping people with approved bills and many have not yet paid in June. "

No hicieron pcr.
