Sweden - Unions push for working time reduction - April 30, 2026
Unions have launched a coordinated push for shorter working time, marking the issue as a central demand ahead of the next bargaining round. LO union confederation and its affiliated unions are mobilising around the demand for a reduction of the standard working week. LO has formally requested negotiations with employers’ organisation to introduce a general reduction in working time across the labour market. The proposal aims to apply to all workers, rather than being negotiated sector by sector, reflecting the view that working time should be addressed at national level. The current standard working week in the country is 40 hours.
