Greece - Unions announce May Day strike actions - April 30, 2026
The country will suffer major transport disruptions on 1 May as unions have called strikes to mark May Day that will cancel all ferry and train services and most of Athens public transport services. Island ferries will be tied up in port all day after the PNO umbrella seamen’s federation called a 24-hour walkout. The federation said it is seeking to strengthen pay negotiating rights and new collective agreements. Transport unions have also called a 24-hour strike that will lead to cancellation of all railway and suburban rail services, as well as Athens’ metro and tram services. Transport workers are pressing for salary increases, effective Government action against the cost-of-living crisis, network and infrastructure improvements and more staff hirings.
