The India Workforce Index: Blue & Grey Collar provides a dynamic, quarterly updated labour market dashboard that measures labour supply, demand, and wages for India’s blue- and grey-collar workforce. It integrates data from government surveys, private job boards, wage databases, and other reliable sources.

The project aims to improve transparency in India’s labour market by equipping workers, job seekers, employers, policymakers, and researchers with real-time insights. By highlighting trends in job vacancies, skill mismatches, and wage levels, the project supports evidence-based decision making and better employment outcomes.
Objective To increase labour market transparency in India by providing disaggregated, reliable, and accessible data on supply, demand, and wages in the blue- and grey-collar workforce supporting workers, employers, policymakers, and educators in addressing labour gaps, improving employment opportunities, and aligning skills development with market needs.
Role of Wageindicator WageIndicator Foundation leads the project, coordinates data collection, analysis, dashboard development, and stakeholder engagement. Its India team (Paycheck.in) provides expertise in labour laws, minimum wages, and dissemination strategies, while drawing on global experience in labour market transparency projects across 200+ countries.
