Switzerland - More strikes - March 31, 2026

Recently, labour disputes have become more frequent in the country. The willingness to strike has increased among unions. One union even offers a course called "Escalation and Strike: When and How?" The employers' association criticizes these recent developments toward a readiness to strike. State employees in Vaud, hospital and university staff in Fribourg, bus drivers in Winterthur, and teachers in Geneva – all have gone on strike in the recent past. The Swiss Association of Public Service Employees (VPOD) is particularly active in organizing and normalizing strikes. Strategic conflicts are to be sought.
