Sweden - Government pauses implementation of pay transparency directive - March 31, 2026
Sveriges Ingenjörer union reported that the Government decided to pause the implementation of the EU Pay Transparency Directive. According to the union, the Government argued that the directive would create excessive administrative burdens and conflict with existing labour law mechanisms, including collective bargaining structures. Trade unions expressed concern that delaying implementation could weaken efforts to reduce unjustified wage gaps, although they also emphasised the importance of preserving the autonomy of collective agreements.
