Spain - Health workers strike - March 31, 2026

The union ELA has criticised the Basque health department for refusing to renew the working conditions agreement covering workers in Osakidetza, the Basque public health service. According to the union, the regulatory agreement on working conditions expired more than 15 years ago and negotiations to replace it are still not progressing. The union says health workers continue to face precarious conditions, which are contributing to shortages in some professional categories. ELA also points to long-standing structural problems in the service, including understaffing, growing workloads, high levels of temporary work and a cumulative loss of purchasing power.
