Portugal - Conflict in social sector leads to strike call - March 31, 2026

Trade union confederation CGTP reported a breakdown in negotiations over the collective agreement for the social sector (IPSS). The employers’ organisation CNIS refused to continue negotiations with several unions, citing an existing agreement with other organisations. Trade unions criticised the move as bad-faith bargaining and called for strike action on 26 March. The dispute centres on wage increases and working conditions, with unions demanding fairer pay and improved contractual protections.
