WAGEINDICATOR PRESENTED AT ANNUAL AAAS MEETING
The February 18 AAAS-meeting in San Francisco, organized with the European Commission, is partly dedicated to Cyber-enabled Social Science Research: New Cross-National Opportunities Promoting Sustainable Well-Being. AAAS motivates this choice as follows: “Cyber-enabled capabilities enable us to explore political, economic, and consumer-based topics at cross-national levels. To do so, however, requires understanding of critical technological and methodological research underpinnings”. One of the key speakers is professor Kea Tijdens, research coordinator of the WageIndicator. The AAAS program outline says that Prof. Tijdens discusses how the Wage Indicator Survey uses the Internet to collect international comparable data on wages, occupation and family situations. Her presentation will also address questions like: "sampling", "data quality", "comparability". The American Association for the Advancement of Science (since 1848) advances science around the world. AAAS publishes Science which has the largest paid circulation of any peer-reviewed general science journal in the world. Kea Tijdens’ full presentation: "Download".
ISCO2008 TO BE STANDARD IN ALL QUESTIONNAIRES
The WageIndicator questionnaires are meant to produce comparable national datasets. Current occupation list in the wageIndicator surveys are too divergent still. Therefore the WageIndicator Foundation participates in the Euroccupations project which aims to create one international standard for occupations in online labor market surveys. This work is coordinated with the ILO, which is presently in the process of updating its ISCO-88 classification to the so called ISCO2008. The new occupation list of the WageIndicator will fit within ISCO2008. It will consist of 3 layers: jobfamily, smaller jobfamily and job. The list of approx 1,500 occupations, will be uploaded in March in the Spanish speaking countries, Korea and Hungary. All other WageIndicator countries will follow in June this year.
SCALING UP TO WAGEINDICATOR 75
Scope: from 17 countries to 75. Ambition: outreach to 8 out of 10 in the global labor force. Up-scaling the WageIndicator from the present 17 countries to 75 will be carried out in a programmatic way. See our program and partners.
SALARIES FOR POLISH MIGRANT WORKERS
More then half a million Poles temporarily work in the UK. This coming and going to the British isles is facilitated mainly through informal networks. The Polish WageIndicator recently launched both a salary check and pages with service information for those planning to go to the UK for work. This joint initiative of the Twojezarobki.pl-team and the Paywizard.co.uk teamwill be followed suit shortly by the Dutch Loonwijzer.nl-team, sponsored by the largest Dutch trade union FNV Bondgenoten.
LAUNCH ITPAYCHECK IN INDIA
This is From our Itpaycheck- team in India: ‘The reporter from Economic Times called up. He said there have been 1,200,000 hits on the (launch of) ITPaycheck news on their website, which is the maximum hits in a day for any news covered till now. In a way it is record breaking news in itself.’ And the figures on the ITPaycheck.com second day after launch, Febr. 13th, were: Visits 13,537. Questionnaires submitted 758. This is the 3rd highest data intake of any day in the 5-year history of WageIndicator.
