January 2025 - Spain - Glovo CEO Oscar Pierre Admits Early Missteps in Worker Contracts, Asserts Commitment to Legal Compliance

Oscar Pierre, CEO and founder of Glovo, which has been accused of imposing illegal conditions on workers by recruiting them through formulas outside the employment contract, said in an interview that he had always been convinced that he was complying with the law.

He admits that he was only 23 when he started the company and, not knowing anything about labour law, he was working with an inappropriate model, but as Glovo grew this was resolved.

Previously, he had said that the company would spend 100 million euros in 2025 to regularise 15,000 'riders' and that changing the model was the healthiest thing for the company.

Pierre added that they will work with a formula that they do not use in any other country, which includes direct recruitment and messaging companies that subcontract their dealers to the platforms, and the idea is that they work in slots.

The news that Glovo was changing its employment model dates back to December 2024. In mid-January, the 31st Investigative Court of Barcelona accused Oscar Pierre, following a complaint filed by the Barcelona Public Prosecutor's Office, of an alleged crime against workers' rights.
