Belarus site partners with UNFDA - Minsk - 7 August, 2009

Mojazarplata, the WageIndicator site in Belarus, has strengthened its position by partnering with the UNFDA, the population fund of the United Nations. On the occassion of World Population Day on July 8, a representative of Mojar spoke at a meeting where also the Labour Ministry of Belarus and the UNFDA itself addressed the audience, reports Anastasia Dudina from Minsk. (Here is the UNFDA report on the day, here in a translation)

The topic of the event was “Economic crisis: investments in women – reasonable choice”.

Anastasia Dudina: "About 20 journalists, including those from the National TV Channel were invited. We presented Mojazarplata.by as a project that lets people share and compare their wages, as well as helps women to be aware of their rights, career possibilities, life-balance, and avoid gender discrimination. In our speech we used the data and figures from ITUC’s “Gender (in)equality in the labour market” report based on Wageindicator data."

Two days after the press conference Mojazarplata, together with a UNFPA expert were invited to a radio talk show.

Traffic to the site went up, tells Dudina. "These activities resulted in a growth of web-site visitors. We also saw in Google Analytics a large number of search keywords like “moja zarplata”, “site mojazarplata” these days that proves that offline sources of PR also work."

Mojazarplata is now included in UNFPA list of partners in Belarus.

The Belarus site is online since this summer has has already proven to have a good nose for attracting an audience and generate publicity in mainstream media and online. Last month, for example, they published an article about the income of prostitutes in Minsk, a publication that attracted much attention.
