June 2021 - Argentina - Rappi and PedidosYa sanctioned for irregularities

Jul 12, 2021 - Rappi and Pedidos Ya were sanctioned for irregularities in the hiring of their staff

The Undersecretary Labor Inspection of the Province of Buenos Aires, Emiliano Ré, confirmed that the companies that deliver food at home Rappi and Pedidos Ya were sanctioned for irregularities in the hiring of their staff. "We carried out 172 surveys in different parts of the province to determine if there were elements that made us presume a working relationship," the official said in statements to Radio Provincia.

In this sense, he stressed that "the three companies were notified due to lack of work registration and the lack of conditions" to carry out these tasks. "The Ministry has the power to enforce those sanctions once they are final," he stressed.

"Let's wait if there can be a judicial appeal or they will have to pay the corresponding fine", and specified that if the sanctions remain, "then the pension contributions that were not paid to those workers will be claimed".

"There has been a lot of debate about the characteristics of these workers. We found that more than 50 percent of them work more than nine hours a day and that 70 percent work almost seven times a week. It is freelancing, but at the same time it's not, because they spend most of the day doing it," he said.
