United Kingdom - Strike threat by council workers - June 30, 2026

Thousands of council workers could walk out on strike after their union vowed to ballot members over what it called an ‘unacceptable' pay offer. Unison union warned that, with inflation forecast to hit 3.5% by the end of the year, the 3.3% offer amounted to a pay cut in real terms. The union said local government workers have lost around a quarter of their pay since 2010. Balloting begins next month.
