United Kingdom - Home-care workers strike against outsourcing - August 31, 2026
Home-care workers employed by Gloucestershire County Council began a two-week strike on 17 August over plans to transfer the service to a private provider. In the industrial-action ballot, 98% voted to strike. The workers provide short-term support at home to people leaving hospital or recovering from illness and injury. UNISON warned that outsourcing could worsen employment conditions, cause experienced staff to leave and undermine continuity of care. The union called on the council to retain the service in-house and engage with workers over its future.
