United Kingdom - Airport workers win improved pay deal, strikes called off - September 30, 2026
Strikes by more than 220 workers at Gatwick Airport have been called off after they accepted an improved pay offer. The workers provide assistance to passengers with restricted mobility, and are represented by Unite. They had planned eight days of walkouts, from 17 to 21 September and from 23 to 26 September, which Unite the union warned would cause flight disruption. Members had unanimously rejected a two-year offer of a 3.4% pay rise for 2026, plus a 0.6% non-consolidated bonus and a 0.5% pension uplift, followed by CPI plus 0.5% in 2027. After talks, the employer tabled a new offer on 14 September and the strikes were suspended to allow a vote. The improved deal was then overwhelmingly accepted.
