Turkey - Union protests over pensions and pay - May 31, 2026

The Office Workers’ Union (BES) organised protests across the country on 14 May against declining pension rights, low retirement incomes and undeclared wage practices in the public sector. Union members demonstrated in front of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security in Ankara and outside Social Security Institution (SGK) provincial directorates across the country. BES stated that public workers who entered employment after the introduction of Law No. 5510 face worsening pension conditions due to reduced pension calculation rates, higher retirement ages and the exclusion of additional payments from pension calculations.
