Turkey - Union demands higher wages - September 30, 2026
On 10 September, DİSK trade union confederation presented its “Wage Losses Report” outside the Ministry of Labour and Social Security in Ankara. According to the report by its research centre DİSK-AR, inflation and taxes cost workers at least 1.863 trillion lira (€ 33 bln) in the first eight months of 2026, 56.7% more than a year earlier. The net minimum wage lost 6,196 lira (€ 110) to inflation by August. The average worker lost 20,612 lira (€ 367), meaning workers spent at least 14 days of August working only for taxes, deductions and inflation. DİSK notes that collective bargaining coverage in the private sector is only around 4%, while workers covered by agreements earn 91.9% more.
