Turkey - Strike ends after pay agreement - May 31, 2026

The 29-day strike at Bekaert's İzmit and Kartepe steel wire factories has ended with the signing of an agreement by the Özçelik İş Union. According to the agreement, the hourly wage for workers was set at 430 TL (€ 8.10). The union's signing of the agreement caused protests in front of the factories. Workers expressed dissatisfaction with the announced wage and contract terms. Originally, Özçelik İş Union demanded a 140% increase in workers' salaries. The employer side, on the other hand, offered a 3-year agreement and an hourly wage of 430 TL.
