Switzerland - Union warns for health problems at the workplace - May 31, 2026

The Swiss Trade Union Federation (SGB/USS) warned that health problems are spreading across workplaces. Referring to new Federal Statistical Office data, it said employees were absent for 8.2 days on average in 2025 due to illness or accident, compared with 6.3 days in 2010. The SGB linked the rise to work intensification, staff shortages, time pressure, irregular hours, psychosocial stress and constant availability. It demanded reliable duty rosters, adequate staffing, enforcement of working and rest time rules, and stronger prevention and inspections.
