Switzerland - Union launches referendum over minimum wage - June 30, 2026
The Swiss Trade Union Federation (SGB/USS) will launch a referendum if Parliament decides that cantonal and municipal minimum wages can be circumvented in the future through collective agreements. This was unanimously decided on 5 June by the USS Delegates’ Assembly. Several cantons and cities have established minimum wages, which are intended to allow employees to meet their basic needs. These wages are the result of popular initiatives clearly accepted by the population. A segment of employers and parties now seeks to circumvent them through a decision by the Federal Assembly.
