Spain - Unions prepare autumn mobilisations over stalled wage pact - September 30, 2026
On 22 September, the confederal council of CCOO union announced a series of mobilisations this autumn together with UGT union. The aim is to press employers' organisations CEOE and Cepyme to negotiate a new Agreement for Employment and Collective Bargaining (AENC). This national framework agreement guides wage increases in thousands of collective agreements. The previous AENC (2023–2025), which recommended 3% annual rises, expired at the end of 2025, and formal talks on a successor have not yet opened. With inflation at 4.3%, CCOO calls the new agreement "an emergency" to protect purchasing power. The unions' proposal, presented in January, calls for annual rises of at least 4%, and up to 7% for workers earning below the average wage.
