Spain - Nationwide strike in vegetable canning sector - September 30, 2026

On 25 September, UGT-FICA and CCOO launched a nationwide strike in the vegetable canning sector to push for a "substantial" improvement of the sector's collective agreement. Further 24-hour strikes are planned for 7 and 8 October. In workplaces with shift systems, the night shift starts the stoppage when its shift begins. The unions say employers refused to negotiate real improvements. They are demanding a pay rise that gives wages a real boost, a new job classification system to bring order to the sector, and a top-up payment for workers on sick leave. According to a weekly round-up by the USO industry federation, the unions put participation in the first strike day at around 80%.
