Slovakia - Wages lag behind productivity - August 31, 2026

The publication from the Department of Trade Union Economic Analysis of union KOZ SR, "Minimum Wage 2026: Adequacy, Convergence and Economic Connections", brings a data-based view of the minimum wage and fundamentally questions the simplified narratives that have long dominated the public debate. The study draws attention in particular to the significant disparity between the country’s economic performance and the evaluation of its employees. While labour productivity measured in purchasing power parity reaches up to 98% of the average of the monitored European Union countries, the minimum wage in purchasing power parity reaches only 75% of this average.
