Slovakia - Public sector unions demand 10% pay rise - September 30, 2026
The first round of collective bargaining on the higher-level collective agreements for the state and public service in 2027 took place on 24 September. The Confederation of Trade Unions (KOZ SR) is demanding a 10% pay rise for state and public employees. It calls this a very moderate proposal that reflects neither the rise in living costs nor the growth of the minimum wage. KOZ said pay for state employees has not been raised since 2023, so real wages have fallen. The unions also want a 37.5-hour week, an extra week of leave, two days of paid time off and higher severance pay. The Government countered with a 4.2% offer.
