Romania - Water-management workers protest over blocked collective bargaining - May 31, 2026

The Mureșul union at Apele Române, affiliated to the National Trade Union Bloc (BNS), announced continued protests over the blocked negotiation of the collective agreement. Between 4 and 8 May, union members planned two-hour pickets at water-basin administrations across the country, followed by a protest march on 14 May at the headquarters of Apele Române and the Environment Ministry. The union accused management of ignoring social dialogue, reducing operational staff, blocking promotions and keeping wages low for field workers. It warned that, if negotiations remained blocked, stronger forms of protest, including work stoppages, could follow.
