Romania - Union rejects revised salary law - August 31, 2026

The National Union Forța Legii (SNFL) rejects a revised public-sector salary law proposal, warning it would harm administration, healthcare and social-assistance workers. The union said the proposed reference value of 4,000 lei (€ 761) and new salary coefficients would not deliver a genuine increase in purchasing power, criticized a cap limiting hazard-work allowances to 20% per budget manager, and objected to the removal of meal allowances from the draft, alongside unresolved pay gaps for medical physicists. The union announced a "union alert" with protests and pickets at prefectures and ruling-party offices starting 1 September, warning that procedures to launch a general strike would begin if its demands went unmet.
