Romania - Union demands minimum wage of 5,000 lei - September 30, 2026
The National Trade Union Bloc (BNS) is demanding that the gross minimum wage rise to RON 5,000 (€ 937) from 1 January 2027, up from the current RON 4,325 (€ 810). According to BNS, workers have lost more than 13% of their purchasing power. The union says this year's increase, which only took effect on 1 July 2026, came six months late, and by its calculations the 2026 minimum wage should have been between RON 4,325 (€ 810) and RON 4,590 (€ 860). BNS insists that the next increase must apply from January and be set under the legal mechanism that brings together the Government, unions and representative employers' organisations.
