Portugal - Union confederation demands 15% pay rise - September 30, 2026
On 11 September, the largest trade union confederation, CGTP-IN, presented its demands for 2027 and announced a "large national demonstration" on 17 October in Lisbon, Porto and Coimbra. It calls for a general pay rise of at least 15%, with a minimum of € 150 for all workers. It also wants the national minimum wage raised from € 920 to € 1,100 from January 2027. The tripartite agreement on wages, which CGTP did not sign, provides for € 970. The secretary-general said the planned path falls "far short" of what workers need to cover their costs, and that € 1,100 is "possible." Before the demonstration, CGTP is planning a month of actions in companies and workplaces, starting on 17 September, ahead of Parliament's approval of the 2027 state budget.
