Portugal - Pre-warning of general strike - May 31, 2026

The CGTP confederation of trade unions has delivered its pre-warning of a general strike on 3 June, and already a number of other unions – doctors included – have signalled that they will be supporting it. The prime minister has essentially insulted the unions, by calling them ‘20th century’. The general strike is the second called against the Work 21 agenda for labour reforms, and it may well be that the Government will have to go back to the drawing board as critics have been suggesting for months.
