Portugal - Negotiations on labour law resumed - March 31, 2026
After business confederations announced that negotiations over the new labour law were over, the President of the Republic appealed to social partners to resume talks, and the challenge was accepted. The Minister of Labour will meet with the four business confederations and the UGT union to resume discussions on the reform of the labour law. The President has already said that, without an agreement in the Social Concertation, he will veto this reform. On 24 July 2025, the Government presented to the Social Concertation a draft bill with more than 100 changes to the Labour Code, which received harsh criticism from the trade union confederations.
